A fiber optic cable under the Arctic Ocean Finnish company Cinia and US company Far North Digital will build by 2025 a 14000-km fiber optic cable system that will link Europe and Asia through the Arctic. The cable will run past Greenland toward Iceland, from there to Northern Norway, via land to Finland. (Icelandmonitor.mbl.is)
New Greenlandic news service in Denmark Danish Parliament allocated 1m euros to develop a new radio station that will deliver content in Greenlandic: it is a much-needed public service for the community living in Denmark. (Euronews) The exact form of the project, spearheaded by Aki-Matilda Høegh Damm, will be decided by the Ministry of Culture early in 2022.
The Sámi in Norway Compared to their other traditional territories (Finland, Sweden and Russia) the Sámi enjoy a stronger legal standing in Norway: they have a Sámi parliament and laws to protect and develop Sámi communities, culture and their ten languages (Sámi is an official language alongside Norwegian).
